03 — DOCUMENTATION

Choosing Auto or Deep

Topics

NORD runs on Claude. Which model exactly is used is usually not your decision to make — that is what the Auto setting does.

Use this if answers feel too shallow, or conversely if you want to watch costs.

The two settings

  1. Auto judges per question how much thinking is needed and picks a model to match. This is the default and the right answer for the large majority of questions.
  2. Deep pins NORD to the heavier model and lets it think for longer. Use it where reasoning matters more than speed: an analysis, a difficult trade-off, a long document.

Deep costs more per turn. It is not a setting to leave on "just in case" — the difference shows up on your usage.

Note

Switching model mid-conversation changes nothing about what has already been said. And if the chosen model is briefly unavailable, NORD falls back to another one, says so visibly in the conversation, and bills against the model actually used.
